Many people take great delight in telling me that Peugeot/Citroen’s new 1.2 Puretech engine is their version of Ford’s Ecoboost.
Well.. It is and it isn’t.
Both are 3 cylinder small capacity engines, Ford’s being a 1 litre and Peugeot’s being a slightly larger capacity 1.2.
The Ecoboost however is turbocharged in all applications (except for a few fiesta’s with the base spec 65bhp version), where Peugeot offers a naturally aspirated AND a turbocharged version across the range.
The easiest way to tell whether a Peugeot or Citroen has the Turbocharged engine is to look at the power outputs in adverts, If its advertised as a Puretech 82 its NOT turbocharged.
More powerful ones, the Puretech 110ps and 130ps have the turbocharger and these engines tend to be only fitted to higher specification models, or larger cars.
